In the midst of all your feelings about your parents’ divorce, you can have the confidence that God sees you and cares about you. The Bible says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Ps. 34:18), and "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" (Ps. 147:3). God not only hurts when you hurt, but He also wants to comfort you, to hold you in His arms, to kiss your hurts and to bandage your inner wounds. He invites you, through honest prayer and childlike trust, to "cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you" (1 Pet. 5:7).
Your family situation may be disappointing if your parents are going through a divorce, but it is not impossible. Simply talking to someone about your feelings and taking time to prayerfully work through the stages of grief will help you begin to cope with the changes in your family. Whenever you begin to feel desperate, don't suffer in silence and solitude. Tell someone who can help—a friend, a teacher, a youth leader, a pastor or someone else that you trust. God cares for you, and His family can comfort and support you.
Some Christians at my college challenged me to prove that the Bible was not accurate. As a skeptic, I spent 2 years trying to do this, and concluded that the Bible that we have today describes accurately what was said and done 2000 years ago. When I then read the Bible, I saw that God wanted a personal relationship with me. I want you to see that God also wants a personal relationship with you, one that you can depend upon in your life.
