This answers your second objection.<br /><br />It is not necessary to believe that the soul evolved to uphold evolutionary theory. The Catholic Church accepts evolution, yet also maintains that at a critical moment, God created the human soul. In short, one does not have to be a reductionist to believe in evolutionary theory.
